What a great past weekend for TTU Soccer. Two of the final three games of Big 12 regular season play have come and gone with TTU winning both. Here is a review of how fantastic the crowd was by VTM's own TMacRaider and I love the fact that John Walker Soccer Complex is becoming a mini Jones.
Congrats to Soccer
I got to go to the game against WV last night, and our team played brilliantly. The crowd was big and loud and very involved. They even play short music clips during any break in play. At one point, we had a free kick down near their goal and a WV coach was trying to yell some adjustments to her girls, but couldn’t because of the the noise. She turned around and yelled to the stands, "What is this?!?" This is Texaa Tech, ma’am. Apparently, we’re the most hostile B12 soccer atmosphere. ;)
I was a little sad that the win didn’t equate to an opportunity to win the Big 12, but our team looked awesome and hopefully they can win the Big 12 tournament and have another record-setting postseason.
You win some. You lose some. Some get rained out.by TMacRaider on Oct 28, 2013 | 7:55 AM reply unrec (9)
TTU beat KU on Friday evening 1-0. Janine Beckie scored the game winning goal in the fifteenth minute of play. GK Victoria Esson had four saves on the night to post her 11th shutout on the season. Coach Stone did mention that KU was probably one of the most competitive teams TTU has faced. You can see the game recap at Texas Tech TV. On Sunday evening #18 TTU hosted #9 WVU. A classic match between the two power houses of the Big 12. Texas Tech came out on fire and ready to win. TTU struck first with a header from Hayley Haagsma. TTU would take the lead 1-0 going into half time. Janine Beckie would score in the second half giving TTU a win over WVU 2-0. TTU gave WVU their first Big 12 loss since entering the conference in 2012 and the Red Raiders first ever win against a Top 10 team. What a great match and gives TTU huge amounts of momentum heading into the last Big 12 season match and the Big 12 Tournament. Recap and highlights again courtesy of Texas Tech TV.
Up next on Friday November 1 is the last regular season match against UT (5-1-1B12). TTU must win or compete to a draw to remain in 2nd in the Big 12 (WVU has won the regular season due to the two draws that TTU has posted). TTU must maintain that hunger that was brought against KU and WVU on Friday against UT. UT is not looking to be able to enter into NCAA soccer tournament as of yet but if they do win at TTU, that will give them a shot. This is my main concern for this match. UT will come in strong but again the key to this game will be TTU's ability to score quickly and keep UT on our side of the field. UT's only lose was to WVU, so TTU does match up nicely to win this one.
Huge news today coming out of College Sports Madness as they have named GK Victoria Esson the NATIONAL DEFENSIVE and Big 12 player of the week. This comes off her fantastic work as GK this past weekend. Esson recorded 8 saves while facing 23 shots over the weekend and continued TTU's shutout record of 12 games this season. Esson has only allowed six goals in 18 matches, yes 6 that's it. Also TTU has moved to Number 1 in the country in both goals against average and shutout average. Esson's work as keeper has helped make this team what it is and will help secure TTU's march through the NCAA Soccer Tournament. Also Esson has just been named the Dallas Soccer News College player of the week. Rankings and more College Sports Madness has moved TTU from #8 to #4 in their rankings. Top Drawer Soccer has moved TTU back to #7 matching their previous high in that ranking. The Red Raiders have jumped to #12 from #18 on the NSCAA Poll. Seth asked about chances in the NCAA tournament. College Sports Madness bracket prediction still shows TTU as the #3 seed in the first bracket. If this holds true then TTU would host the first round of that bracket. As was last years bracket, TTU is in the same bracket as Florida State and TTU lost to them in the second round. The way the team is peaking at the right moment, I foresee TTU getting through at least the quarter finals in the NCAA tournament.
How about a little Rolling with Stone prior to last weekends matches. I love what Coach Stone is doing with soccer and TTU is in a great place with his abilities
This just in as I was about to post from Big 12 announces Janine Beckie as Offensive Player of the Week and Victoria Esson as Defensive Player of the Week. Keep it coming Ladies and Wreck UT.
