The Big 12

As of right now only Texas Tech and Baylor remain as the only undefeated teams in Big Twelve Conference. The Red Raiders are the first team in the conference to be bowl eligible, but there is still uncertainty of just how far the Red Raiders can go this season. The second half of the season will be have Tech facing their most difficult rivals in the conference. Aside from playing the other three ranked schools in the conference (Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, and Baylor), Tech will be playing a renewed Texas, a Kansas State squad that has shown signs of brilliance, and the West Virginia team that pulled an upset against the once eleventh ranked Oklahoma State.

Many will overlook the unranked schools, but they still pose a threat to the Tech squad. Kansas State showed Baylor that they would not be beaten with much ease. Kansas State forced Baylor to punt on six occasions and rushed for three touchdowns and 199 yards. Although State would lose the game by a score of 35-25, State had an impressive showing against a powerful Baylor squad.

The Longhorns earned some redemption for their slow start by defeating their rival Oklahoma with a score of 36-20.Texas was able to stun the Sooners with a rushing offense that clocked in 255 yards, its ability to convert 13 of the 20 third downs, and its stellar performance by its defense. Texas’ win against Oklahoma showed that the Longhorns are still alive in the Big 12 Conference.

Although West Virginia has had a turbulent first half of the season, the Mountaineers did manage to pull an upset against an OSU team that was believed to cruise past the Mountaineers. West Virginia however was able to pull a win by forcing OSU quarterback J.W. Walsh to throw 2 picks, with one being ran in for a touchdown, and forcing a fumble at OSU’s 27 yard line.

Tech should not overlook the unranked school in the conference since they have proven that they are capable of stunning the best of opponents. If Tech can decrease their number of penalties and play the dynamic defense they have played regularly; Tech will be able to continue win. The Big 12 Conference is open for any almost everyone. This season Tech could see a possible conference title.
