A Story I Rarely Tell

In high school I went through a few coaching circuits myself! But NO coach in 12 years was like coach Zach bronson (NFL safety for San Fran). He's 38 now and was recently out of the NFL. He was still fairly new to coaching when he came to Westside, and I was going into my Jr year. Bronson is the reason why I am so hardworking today. Having NFL experience and him teaching from his experiences, really made me want to raise my level of intensity. I went to practice early always, and watched film for at least 15 hours every week (in high school yes)! ***but I have a point to this story*** coach bronson saw things in me that helped me grow as a person and an athlete. I had a bad attitude, and had character issues that made me a very unlikeable guy. I was an even worst leader. When we went through some losing at times at Westside I would pout and walk around with my head down etc.. One day, Coach Bronson pulled me to the side and told me that he had lost his son awhile back when they were outside playing catch. He had never told anyone this story as far as the athletes! The ball hit his son in the chest and he collapsed. (I think he had a tumor; he was 13). I was at a lost for words! ( I lost my dad awhile back as well) Funny thing is, coach was the happiest person i had ever met! geesh the guy was like hyped up on coffee all the time! every single day he was the first person at practice, running around, and yelling old school rab lyrics that non of us knew. (everyone LOVED him)!!! I would have never known he had lost his son, especially in that way. For him to always walk around so happy and enjoying life - that not only changed my attitude, but it reminded me to enjoy life, this game of football and WHATEVER God has in store for me. Yes kliff and this staff will be young, but they all have NFL experience. Not too long ago, a few of these guys were on NFL rosters. They will be able to connect with these guys on an entirely different level. They will be able to inspire, encourage, and get the best of these guys. This just wont be a job to them (like tubs). They will give their heart for this program, this school, and for West Texas ! #wreckem
