I would normally file this under "moment of zen" but with all of the news out there, I decided to create a FanPost instead. I found this via GearPatrol, but this is a short film about a ultra marathoner running the Fish River Canyon in Namibia, which is 84 kilometers or about 52 miles.
I love this quote:
“Generally we always question ourselves. We always feel like we’ve gotta be rational. If I get too rational about it, it’s probably pretty obvious I shouldn’t be running it. But my heart says I should run it.”
Last week, I started running again after not running or exercising at all since Fitsum got home. I started small, running only 10 minutes and maybe a mile to now running two miles and yesterday I finally felt normal or that I could just run and not worry about it.
So my question is not if you run ultra marathons, but if you work out and if what do you do?
I also found this article about Urban Golf via Wired, which started in Portland and involves normal golf clubs and a tennis ball:
Urban golf is just like its verdant cousin, but cooler. Instead of greens, trees and bunkers, you have streets, signposts and sewers. Portland’s courses move around the city from event to event, but they’re usually contained within one square mile. Each hole covers about two blocks; the “hole” is usually a street sign or Dumpster. Folks can keep score, but few bother because no one wants to count that high. Par? Pfft. There isn’t one.
If you considered this little more than an excuse to drink, exercise, drink, laugh and drink some more while exploring the Rose City, you’d be right.
I have no question other than this sounds like golf like I could play.
