Wanted to give you an update on my conversation with the Chancellor earlier this summer about alumni outreach. I had the opportunity to speak with Kirby Hocutt about this matter as well, and he was on board, as was Dr. Dean from the very beginning. Last week the three of them met to discuss doing a letter along the lines of what we initially discussed. At the end of the day there was too much concern about the safety of the Chancellor and his family if things were to get stirred up again. Trust me when I say that what the Chancellor and his family went through at the time of Leach’s termination was truly disturbing and frightening. I cannot fault him for not wanting to put his family in that situation again.
The good news is that I had a long conversation with Hance’s communications director on Thursday night about what other options we might consider. There were two things we discussed on that call and we’ve exchanged several emails since then.
I would love and really appreciate hearing some REALISTIC and SERIOUS suggestions from y’all (please nothing sarcastic, hateful and unhelpful). It would be great to have several ideas on the table and see what we can come up with. I know there are a lot of creative, thoughtful and motivated folks on this site so I look forward to hearing your great ideas!! We’re SO close - let’s git ‘er done!
