ODDS AND ENDS | This is a pretty amazing video and if you have 20 minutes or so to watch it, the scenery is spectacular, it is about rock climbing the Great Arch of Getu (hat-tip Gear Patrol). I had no idea that this rock formation existed before yesterday, which again proves that I can be incredibly ignorant.
TRACK | Per the official site, head coach Wes Kittley was named the women's regional coach of the year. Congrats!
LAJ's Don Williams writes that Texas Tech's Gil Roberts is running for a national championship in the 400.
BASEBALL | OF Barrett Barnes was chosen #45 overall in the MLB First Year Player Draft. You can listen to Barnes talk with the Williams and Hyatt Show and LAJ's George Watson also wrote about Barnes being chosen. LAJ's George Watson also writes about 2B/OF Jamodrick McGruder being drafted by Seattle, P Shane Broyles drafted by Colorado and Duke von Schamann drafted by the Dodgers.
LAJ's George Watson spoke with AD Kirby Hocutt about the search for the new head baseball coach and Hocutt said that he wasn't putting a time-frame on the search, but that he remains diligent in his search.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL | Per LAJ's David Just, head coach Kristy Curry added Katie Hensle as a new assistant coach and Layne Reeves, a former Nebraska player, as a graduate assistant. The official site has an extensive Q&A with Hensle.
Also per the LAJ's David Just, he talks with new Texas Tech signee Jackie Patterson from Hutchinson (Kan.) C.C. who was an All-American while at JUCO and averaged 12.4 PPG and 7.9 RPG. The article also mentions Jackie's twin sister Jasmine who is just a redshirt freshman due to an injury, you can read about them here.
This was a bit interesting, the Nassau Guardian, a Bahama newspaper writes that SF Wannah Bail and SG Michael Carey have signed with Texas Tech. Bail is expected, Carey is not.
I meant to mention last week that Texas Tech did offer Skyline QB Devante Kincade and yesterday on Double-T 104.3's Ask Level, Chris Level said that he would not be surprised if Manvel CB Tavares Garner de-committed from Texas Tech after receiving an offer from LSU.
