The College Football Hall of Fame is great, but it's got some clunky rules that don't always fit and they have still found a way to not let in Nebraska's Tommy Frazier. It is also problematic because a player like Purdue's Drew Brees will never be in the College Football Hall of Fame because he was not an All-American. I don't get that. SB Nation is here to help and you're going to help me pick the nominees to be submitted for Texas Tech.
As a website, we are allowed to nominate five players or coaches from ten categories: QB, RB, WR, TE, OL, DL, LB, DB, ST, Coach. No more than one nominee can come from each category. We're also strongly encouraged to have at least one of our nominees come from a non-AQ team, and four come from Texas Tech. I think it would be pretty interesting if someone can present a player from West Texas that was a great player and/or coach, but not from Texas Tech (Hal Mumme?).
The eligibility rules are that the players or inactive coaches, the nominee should have been out of college for four full years. So the first class would cover 1962 to players and coaches who finished their career by 2007 (bowls of January 2008). The other option for active coaches OR coaches who haven't been inactive for four years is that they were at their current position for at least five seasons. (Position, NOT school, so this means that Mike Leach would be an option, but Graham Harrell or Michael Crabtree would not be options.) We're also asking that each player be initially nominated by someone who saw them play or coach, either in person or on television.
Rather than have a bunch of comments that may meander from one topic to the next, which is fine, so long as you youse the "recommend" button. Here's what I need you to do:
- Post a comment with the name of one player or coach in the subject line of the comment. Feel free to elaborate in the body of the comment as to why you think this is a good nominee.
- If your nominee has already been mentioned (or you want to nominate one person but also like some others), hit the recommend button on the comment with that player or coach's name. (If you hit "Actions," it should bring up a couple of options -- click the one with the star and "Rec.")
- The players/coaches with the most "recommends" will be submitted to the SB Nation Hall of Fame Committee and then they take it from there.
And to avoid any questions -- yes, this was completely stolen from Team Speed Kills (as was almost this entire post) who stole it from California Golden Blogs.
If you use the Twitter, the hashtag that we're using is #SBNHOF.
