The Lady Raiders season ended in the 3rd Round of the WNIT. Tech lost to San Diego 60-51.
It was really hard to watch this game. The Lady Raiders just never got into a rhythm and they struggled in field-goals and free-throws. There were numerous bad shots and bad passes. If nothing else during this season, this team was always good at their passing and their play set-up and that was missing tonight. It was doubly hard in the 2nd half since they were without Monique Smalls. She had an injury at the end of the 1st half and did not return to the game.
Jordan Barncastle was again the MVP and with this being her last game she went out on a personal high-note.
Tech got close a couple of times but could never get over the hump for the tie and ultimately ran out of time for a very late-in-the-game comeback. They scored two back-to-back 3-pointers with 1:19 and then 38 seconds left in the game to bring the game to within 5 points.
Tech loses 2 seniors: Barncastle and Kierra Mallard. I am hoping the 4 new recruits coming in next season with the 4 to 5 core players still remaining will make this team exceptional.
If these players can play aggressively, cohesively, smart and improve their accuracy on their free-throws and 3-point shots, then they will be unbeatable.
Although I am disappointed that they lost tonight and that they did not win the WNIT, I see a lot of talent in these players and I look forward to seeing them next year and being a team to be reckoned with in each and every game.
Note: Smalls will have more tests done on her leg tomorrow but they think it's an ACL tear.
