With a 7-1 record and quality wins against a ranked St. John's team, Texas Tech is ranked No. 24 in the College Baseball Newspaper's poll for the first time since being ranked No. 25 in the USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll on March 28, 2005. Through eight games Texas Tech's pitchers have combined for a 2.01 ERA while the Red Raiders have four batters hitting better than .340.
