DTN Daily Diatribe | Texas Tech News, Notes and Links | 2011-07-01

Happy July to everyone.  I'll have the Dominique Wheeler profile later this morning.

FOOTBALL
Scout.com: The Elite 18 - No. 12 Pearlie Graves
It's easy to somewhat forget about all of the available candidates at defensive tackle.  Graves is in the mix and he should be.  I love Graves' motor and he's a strong guy.  Should be a perfect replacement at the noseguard position and am hoping that he makes an impact.

Big 12 position ranking: Safeties - Big 12 Blog - ESPN
The Ubbenator has the Texas Tech safeties ranked #7 in the conference, which isn't bad considering Texas Tech had the worst pass defense in the Big 12 last year.  Ubben fails to mention Terrance Bullitt, who I think will make a significant impact this year as the third safety.

Upset Alert: Five Games to Watch For - Turfburner
I don't know if this is good or bad, but Beck thinks that Texas Tech has a chance to upset both TAMU and Oklahoma St. this year.

Pre-Snap Read: A College Football Blog | No. #61: Kansas State
A fine preview from PSR's Paul Myerberg.

John Klein: Big 12 likely won't miss title game | Tulsa World
Didn't have the time to read this article this morning, so let me know if I'm wasting people's time.

BASEBALL
Happy Campers | Lubbock Online | Lubbock Avalanche-Journal
Good stuff from LAJ's George Watson about the Texas Tech baseball camps.

ARTnews | A Long Lost Leonardo
See, you can get art news from DTN.  Researchers have authenticated a painting that they now believe to be the work of Leonardo DaVinci.
