This is the sense that i get from the consensus of the DTN faithful. There is cause for concern, but no need to slam on the brakes.
Yeah offense was the suck saturday, but UT's defense imo, is that good. No need to bring the LB's in when your front 4 are getting that much pressure. That lets you be able to drop 7 into coverage and cover up everyone all day. I do agree there should have been some RB slipscreens and some draws to slow down that pass rush but d line just collapsed our pocket seemingly at will. Potts as to take some, NOT ALL, of the blame. He made bad reads and forced throws that he shouldnt have. For all the Sticks fans, there was NO way that he was gonna be effective, not with that O line playing. We could've had peyton freaking manning back there and STILL lose. It all starts up front. Matt Moore better get his head out of his ass and find a damn o line over these next two weeks. This season(like last) will hinge on o line play. Coach Brown made some bad play calls. Its easy to say what we should or shouldnt have done. Hell anyone can be a armchair quarterback. Dont act like Leach ever had called bad games before either. And for everyone jumping all over Tubs and his double speak, heres this for starters:
White Helmets: Players wanted to wear them, he didnt.
Running the ball "more": we have maintained a 60-40 pass/run ratio so far this year. And i remember A LOT of people clamoring to run the ball more to since we got some studs at RB. Then you nitpick when we do run. yeah it needs to be disguised better but i think were just not calling the right kinds of running plays. Need some swing passes and some 1 HB shotgun running.
Defense: How can you sit there and say "i dont see an improvement over last years D." WHAT? are you shitting me? We have more sacks,INTs,TFLs, and FFs than we did ALL OF LAST YEAR. "Yeah but we gave up a lot of yards to a bad NM team." Theres more to it than just stats folks. Stats do have a place to make anything a valid point....but you must be high to say this years D isnt an improvement over last years.
We got two weeks to get it together, find an o line, get better on offense, and come out sharp against Iowa State.
Everyone just needs to calm down, drink more alcohol, and just chill out for two weeks. New turnover on the coaching staff pretty much means growing pains. Things werent peachy when the captain first arrived here on the south plains. Patience. Things could have been worse guys, we could have hired someone who we all didnt like and could be looking at a 1-2 or 0-3 start. then this place would be BANANAS. Same record at this point in time last year. Theres still a lot of football left to be played.
