Good morning fellow DTNer's. It's 03:12 Lubbock time ( yeah, that just happened ) and I've been thinking, what in the f*** has been going on since Christmas? We've lost our Pirate Coach, promoted another, won a bowl game, hired a coach, destroyed our respective livers on numorous occasions, cried, thrown random objects at the TV, and we've watched the Big 12 Conference as we know it fall apart faster than Craig James reputation.
So, it's been a crazy 6-7 months and I still don't know what the hell happened. We're in the middle of an EPIC conference realignment that in turn could start a revolution of Super Conferences. Which by the way would be incredible. I want it to happen. The possiblities are endless. Let's check out the PAC-10. I heard from a reputible source that the beer flows like wine. Some guy named Samsonite told me that........
Here we go.
Here's what I've been thinking. Tech has been on the up and up since Coach Mike Leach took the reigns many moons ago. Steadily improving and steadily winning. I loved it while it was happening. I'm sad with the outcome but I've learned to move on. Now, we have the chance to move to another conference and continue that tradition of bad ass-ness. We will have the chance to play a lot of different teams that I didn't know existed. Not. Serious.
So, let's start a list. The two teams below would be on or side of the conference or the PAC-16 East.
Arizona - Sure. We can play you. You'll be like our new Baylor or A&M. I rode thru Arizona back in April. It was insanely cold and I hated it. Flagstaff is covered in snow. Sequoia Cactus are awesome.
Arizona St. - See above. Or maybe not. I honestly don't have a clue, just speculation at this point.
This is where it gets tricky, for me anyway. We would still play Texas, OU, OSU, A&M, and CU on a regular basis. Thus still having UT and OU as the supposed "Conference Powerhouses" in our division. So, for me, nothing has really changed. There is still that hurdle to get over and a gauntlet of a schedule. Add in the fact that we would seemingly play to AZ schools every year and who the hell knows from California, Washington, and Oregon.
Now I'm confused and possibly a little deerunkerd ( coined a new word just now, mine ). How often will we play schools from the PAC-16 West Division? I've read that we would play the same to schools every 8 years........ How the f*** is that going to work out? How are we supposed to establish a rivalry and talk s*** to the opposing team if we can't even remember where they are from? Beats the hell outta me. That's just one scenarion that I've read. It could be entirely different when this all pans out.
Let's take the teams from the other side of the PAC-16 and check them out.
Oregon - GREAT. REFS. Too soon? OU will know how to handle that.....
Oregon St. - I don't know which one is the Duck or the Beaver and I don't care at this point. I love Oregon. I've been there a few times and it seems alright. Lot's of green things they call "trees". Whatever.
USC - My hate for the University of Spoiled Children stems all the way back to 1982 which is the year I was born. We have a family relative that is a USC grad. Said family member was baby sitting me while my parents where out. I ruined said family members prized USC shirt with bodily fluid. Hate started. This is the way I've heard the story.
Cal - Holiday. Bowl. 2004. 45-31. That is all.
Stanford - They refuse to plural their mascot. They call themselves the "cardinal" not "cardinals". That is enough for me. They have this "tree" thing that looks like asparagus and spinach combined. I don't get it. Thanks for playing Stanford, you are my new Iowa St.
UCLA - Ehhhhh. There was a movie back in the 80's that had that guy in it from Weird Science that visited UCLA for Football. That's all I got. Oh yeah, my sister in law is there for Grad School. Don't worry, she TTU Alumni Class of 2008. She has a nice pad in Van Nuys with plenty of sleeping room. So, road games are sooo in order.
Washington - Leonard Washington / Dave Chappelle? I got nothing. They're nick named the Huskies. Which I, for some reason always associated with the classic movie "The Program" insert Lattimer reference here ______.
Washington St. - Again, I have nothing..... Wazzu reference on wikipedia. The new Mizzou? Notable alumni Gary Larson, cartoonist for "The Far Side".
This looks to be a lot of fun once the ball gets rolling. New teams, new rivalries, new conference, and new Championships. Maybe we can get SARR to come up with some charts and graphs. TTUMAR can provide some insight too. Because let's be honest, what rational thought could I possibly have at this hour? That's what I thought. Hopefully, my relief employee gets here shortly and I can head to the house and take a nap.
See y'all in the morning and Wreck Em TECH!!
