There has been much discussion regarding the coaching change's impact upon our recruiting class; however, most of the conversations have ranged from neutral to doomsday. I am in the camp that believes Coach Tuberville will salvage this class by assuring offensive recruits that the Air Raid-type offense remains and by talking about his defensive success on the other side of the ball. In short, I think that our group remains solid.
The question that I pose to my fellow Raiders is the following: Can this recruiting class become even stronger?
I don't believe our offensive recruits will (or can) get much better, but I am curious about the defensive side. If James Willis (and that IS an "if") were to come on board as the DC, what recruits might he bring? C.J. Mosley is a 4-star LB whose commitment followed Willis from Auburn to Alabama (Source: http://www.tidesports.com/article/20100110/NEWS/100119981/1011?Title=Mosley-chooses-Alabama-over-Auburn&tc=ar). Willis would have a strong sales pitch for coming to Tech with the 3-4 implementation and a roster that isn't incredibly deep on LB talent (especially with another position to fill). Willis is also recruiting some 4-star DBs. What if even one of them followed him? Would a Willis-type hire get some of our existing recruits off the fence (e.g., Fehoko, Porter, Henry)?
I will acknowledge there is plenty of optimism built into this post, but I wanted to put it on the table. Comments?
