Like many of you, I am known to prowl around the web looking for good stories about the upcoming season, hoping to catch some insight to the season ahead of us and honestly I have been disgusted at what I have seen. At this point I honestly feel that ESPN has taken a turn against Tech after we made all of their announcers look stupid after beating Texas, and humiliating OSU last season. I DID expect this much .... However, I NEVER expected to see more stories about Baylor and A&M than Tech!
This morning while looking through Tim Griffin's Big 12 Blog, it just seems like there is an overflow of stories boosting Baylor to some pretty lofty expectations. After the scrimmages were over, all anyone wanted to talk about was how Robert Griffin completed 16 of 20 passes for 157 yards and engineered four scoring drives. Pretty much all offseason all I have read about was how Griffin was boosting the Bears to new heights, and looking unstoppable... Am I the only one who looks at the fact that he has been playing against BAYLOR'S defense? I mean this is a team who went 4-8 last year, and while that is a game better than their 3-9 mark the year before, still building back to their banner year of 5-6 back in 2005, what exactly is so special about this team???? Not only is it STILL BAYLOR, but they lost the only good lineman they had protecting their new hotshot QB. I understand wanting to pump new blood into the Big 12 spotlight, but really we are stretching it at this point, I mean Mike Leach has coached our Red Raiders to a bowl game about every year now and here people want to act like Tech will just Forget how to win because we are putting a few new faces in there. I mean imagine the numbers Potts would have thrown up against Baylor's defense in a scrimmage.
Another team I see plastered all over TV/Interwebs is aTm ... does it not seem like the media is trying to create a team that just isn't there? Ever day there are more and more stories about Sherman building some sort of powerhouse down there... from what? ONE 5 star running back? A QB that can run around well enough, but is horribly inconsistant on his passing.... or perhaps that best receiver they have choosing to play backup QB rather than being top receiver. Whatever the case may be, how many losses do you think it will take before people start admitting they dropped the ball on pumping these teams up to unrealistic expectations?
Anyways, it feels good to get some of this off my chest... back to the Dark Horse pick for Tech again like back in the early days of Mike Leach.
